Buran Ghati Trek Experiences
The Buran Ghati Trek is one of the most diverse and thrilling trekking experiences in Himachal Pradesh. Located in the Pabbar Valley region near Janglik village, this trek offers a perfect combination of lush forests, traditional Himalayan villages, vast alpine meadows, snow-covered passes, and dramatic mountain landscapes — all in a single journey.
What makes Buran Ghati truly special is the variety of terrain it covers. The trail begins through charming wooden houses of Janglik village and gradually moves into dense pine and oak forests. As you ascend, the scenery transforms into wide open meadows filled with vibrant wildflowers during the summer season. The beautiful Dayara meadows are often considered one of the highlights of the trek, offering breathtaking views of surrounding snow-clad peaks.
The most adventurous part of the trek is crossing the Buran Pass, situated at an altitude of around 15,000 feet. The climb to the pass is challenging yet rewarding, and depending on the season, trekkers may experience snow walls and an exciting descent on snow slopes. The panoramic views from the top are truly unforgettable, showcasing the raw beauty of the Himalayas.
The trek is categorized as moderate to challenging, making it suitable for trekkers with good fitness levels and some prior trekking experience. With its changing landscapes, scenic campsites, and thrilling pass crossing, the Buran Ghati Trek offers a complete Himalayan adventure filled with excitement and natural beauty.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit the Buran Ghati Trek is from May to June and September to October, when the weather remains stable and the trail is at its most scenic.
May and June are ideal months for trekkers who want to experience snow at higher altitudes. During this period, the Buran Pass often has snow patches, making the pass crossing more adventurous and exciting. The lower regions are covered with lush green meadows and blooming wildflowers, creating a beautiful contrast between greenery and snow.
The monsoon season (July and August) brings heavy rainfall to the region. While the meadows turn vibrant and colorful, the trails can become slippery and risky due to rain and potential landslides. Trekking during peak monsoon is generally not recommended for safety reasons.
September and October are considered one of the best times for this trek. The skies are clearer after the monsoon, offering sharp and panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. The weather remains cool and pleasant, and the trail conditions are stable, making it a perfect time for photography and a comfortable trekking experience.
The trek is usually not accessible during peak winter months due to heavy snowfall at high altitudes.
Overall, the months between May–June and September–October provide the safest and most rewarding experience for the Buran Ghati Trek.
